Thule's Partner in Sport is K1 Olympic and World Champion
The Great British treasure hunt has struck gold again with a spectacular win from Thule-sponsored sprint kayaking doctor, Tim Brabants. Brabants stormed to kayaking gold in the men's 1000 metre K1 (single kayak) sprint, returning to the medal podium for the first time in eight years, after winning bronze in Sydney and just missing out on a medal at Athens in 2004. Brabants took the lead halfway and powered ahead to win in 3 minutes, 26.323 seconds. Speaking to journalists after his victory, Brabants said: "No one was going to touch me today, I felt fantastic. I went into the race knowing I was the strongest paddler. I had an excellent start and I knew from that moment no one was going to go past me." With Beijing 2008 proving to be the most successful Olympics for Great Britain in over 100 years, the country’s attention is fixed on the Olympics as Team GB continues to amaze with their medal table ranking. Thule, the world’s largest manufacturer of car roof rack systems, roof boxes and accessories has supported Brabants since 2007 through its Partner in Sport Scheme; donating Hull-a-Port kayak carriers, roof bars and items from the Load and Go range to help transport him to events the world over. Peter Barker, UK General Manager of Thule said: “Tim’s performance today has been absolutely astonishing. Thule are thrilled to sponsor such a dedicated sportsman and look forward to welcoming him back to the UK.” To find out more about sprint or marathon kayak racing and to find your nearest canoe club see www.bcu.org.uk.
